Birch Finance is a Canadian personal finance application currently in development. Our registered domain is birchfinance.ca. For privacy inquiries, please contact us at privacy@birchfinance.ca.

2. Information We Collect

At this stage, Birch Finance operates a waitlist. The only information we collect is what you voluntarily provide when joining our waitlist:

• First and last name
• Email address
• Your answer to our optional survey question about money management in Canada
• Your answer to our optional follow-up question about current spending tracking habits

We do not collect any financial data, banking credentials, or payment information at this stage.

3. Why We Collect This Information

We collect your name and email to:

• Notify you when Birch Finance launches
• Send you occasional product updates (you can unsubscribe at any time)
• Personalize communications with you

We collect survey responses to:

• Better understand the needs of Canadians managing their finances
• Inform product development decisions
• Improve the Birch Finance experience before launch

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Under PIPEDA, we collect and process your personal information based on your informed consent. By joining our waitlist, you are explicitly consenting to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy. You may withdraw consent at any time.

5. How We Store and Protect Your Data

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption. We use reputable third-party service providers who are contractually required to protect your information.

6. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. Ever.

We may share your information only with:

• Email service providers — to send you waitlist and product communications. These providers are bound by strict data processing agreements.
• Legal authorities — only if required by Canadian law or a valid court order.

7. Anonymized Data Program (Future)

Birch Finance plans to offer an opt-in program where users may choose to share anonymized, aggregated spending data for research and analytics purposes. This program will:

• Always be strictly opt-in — never enabled by default
• Never include personally identifiable information
• Never include specific transaction details tied to you
• Provide a clear benefit to participants
• Be governed by a separate, detailed consent process

• Withdrawal of consent — withdraw your consent at any time
• Deletion — request that we delete your personal information

9. Cookies and Tracking

Our current landing page does not use cookies or tracking technologies beyond standard server logs provided by our hosting provider (Vercel). We do not use advertising trackers, pixel tracking, or fingerprinting technologies.

10. Data Retention

We retain your waitlist information until you unsubscribe or request deletion, or until Birch Finance launches and you choose not to continue as a user. We do not retain personal information longer than necessary.

11. Children's Privacy

Birch Finance is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us immediately at privacy@birchfinance.ca.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy as Birch Finance evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify waitlist members by email and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
